Surgical Scar Treatment

Scars are testaments to our body’s remarkable ability to heal, but sometimes they don’t fade as much as we’d like them to or they form in a manner that draws unwanted attention. Whether the scar has been caused by a surgical procedure or injury, its presence can often be a reminder of a particular event or period that some would prefer to move past. For many, it’s not just about cosmetics; scars can sometimes cause discomfort, restrict movement, or serve as an emotional barrier. Scar revision surgery aims to reshape scars to provide the best possible aesthetic result by reducing their visibility and improving texture.

How a Surgical Scar Treatment works

The approach to scar treatment varies depending on the type, location, and severity of the scar. Generally, the process involves removing the scarred tissue and meticulously suturing the skin to promote healing in a less conspicuous manner.

In cases of contracted scars, which restrict movement, the treatment may also involve tissue expansion or skin grafting to restore functionality. Advanced techniques, ensuring minimal tension during closure and the strategic placement of incisions, can significantly reduce scar visibility.

Post-operative care is crucial. Compressive or supportive garments may be required. Silicone gel or sheets might be recommended to maintain skin hydration and reduce scar thickness, while sun protection is essential to prevent discoloration. A scar massage protocol is also used to help soften scars.
